AMSOIL Introduces European Car Formula 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil

March 8th, 2012

New AMSOIL European Car Formula 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil is specially formulated for the lubrication needs of modern European gasoline and diesel cars and light trucks. AMSOIL European Car Formula provides outstanding performance and protection for high-performance vehicles made by Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche and more. It is formulated to stay in grade throughout the extended drain intervals recommended by European automakers, and is designed for the unique demands of turbocharged vehicles.

Engineered with a select additive package and shear stable synthetic base oils, AMSOIL European Car Formula meets strict ACEA and VW HT/HS requirements. Its low sulfated ash, phosphorus and sulfur (SAPS) formulation promotes optimum emissions system performance and life, resulting in reduced maintenance costs. Friction modifiers and the lighter 5W-30 viscosity reduce friction for increased energy through-put to maximize fuel economy. It provides excellent deposit control and outstanding wear protection for gasoline- and diesel-fueled engines.

Amsoil - first in synthetics

AMSOIL European Car Formula 5W-30 is thermally stable to keep oil passages clean and promote fluid circulation so turbo bearings stay cool and lubricated. It provides enhanced turbocharger protection in all temperature extremes, while its thermal stability withstands high-temperature/high-RPM breakdown. Its low pour point protects turbochargers against oil starvation and ensures rapid oil pressure in sub-zero conditions. Recommended for European gasoline or diesel vehicles requiring any of the following performance specifications:

VW 504.00/507.00
ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4
Mercedes-Benz 229.51
BMW LL-04
Porsche C30

Volkswagen to offer Fender edition Beetle

May 15th, 2012

Volkswagen worked with Fender, its stereo partner, to put together the concept Beetle shown at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The concept had an iPod dock set into amp-like mesh, a tube amp, sunburst-patterened wood trim and a trunk-mounted sub you could plug your guitar into.

Car and Driver reports that a production version is coming, perhaps before the end of the year, but it will be missing several of the components that made the concept that much cooler, like the mesh-decorated dock, the tube amp and the port in the sub. Oh, and the sunburst-pattern trim might not be made of wood.

There’s plenty that could remain, though. The black concept featured special red and chrome trim, a leather roof, and sat on a lowered suspension with 19-inch wheels. Those could make it through the production transition, as well as the high-end Fender stereo system, naturally.

Cruise on I-55 Southbound 240SX Kouki

May 14th, 2012

NOTE** : Watch 2:51 for the reason I hate living in Chicago, aside from 3 foot wide potholes! A friend of mine wanted me to post this up. No specific purpose, just a quick vid. I shot this using my Kodak Zi6 HD Camcorder suction cup mounted to my windshield. The car I’m following is KoukiMonstarr’s 1998 Nissan 240SX Kouki. From what I remember he has Stance Coilovers and a HKS Hi-Power Exhaust.

Mazda and SCRAMP extend Laguna Seca partnership

Mazda Raceway

Mazda and the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula have extended the automaker’s naming rights of Laguna Seca for another five years. That means the famous race track in California will continue to be known as Mazda Raceway, at least through 2016. The Monterey County Board of Supervisors ratified the agreement.

The Japanese manufacturer has been instrumental in updating and improving Laguna Seca to make the facility more convenient and safer than before. Mazda helped fund additions like permanent pit lane garages and luxury hospitality suites as well as additional runoff areas on the track itself. Mazda first partnered up with SCRAMP in 2001, but the company says its ties to the track go all the way back to the ’70s, when the brand was little-known here the States. Scroll down below for the full press release.

Toyota launches new Pixis Epoch kei car in Japan

May 14th, 2012

Toyota Pixis Epoch

Kei cars may be small in size, but they’re big business in Japan. The latest arrival to the category is the little hatch you see above, the Toyota Pixis Epoch.

It’s the fourth vehicle produced by the Daihatsu division but sold under the Toyota brand. As with other keis, power comes from a 660cc engine. It’s mated to a continuously variable transmission driving either just the front wheels or all four. In both configurations, the Pixis Epoch features a stop-start system that helps its emissions and fuel efficiency figures come in well below even the Japanese government’s stringent standards.

The whole package measures just 3,395 mm (133 inches) long, 1,475 mm (58 inches) wide and 1,500 mm (59 inches) tall, but offers a relatively spacious and utile interior, plus a tight turning radius of just 4.4 meters. Pricing ranges from 795,000 to 1.2 million yen – that’s less than $10,000 (and no more than $15k). Further details in the press release after the jump.

More details emerge about new RWD Cadillac flagship

May 11th, 2012

Every single Cadillac XTS post ends up with comments deploring the sedan’s FWD – even a post that speaks of nothing more than the iPad buyers will get with the car. For those folks especially, Car and Driver has loaded the hopper with news on the possible treats coming from the Wreath and Crest. Examining uses of the Omega platform, C/D says “a proper rear-drive sedan” will arrive in “a few” years and take the top spot in the lineup. Predictions are that it will have a rakish roofline and the 310-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6.

GM’s Omega platform is said to have been engineered to accommodate this new RWD flagship, though the chances of it actually coming to fruition are about as likely as winning the Mega Millions. The only trifles, according to C/D, are that the program hasn’t even been approved, and if it is, would Cadillac have an engine good enough to serve in such a car or would it need to develop one. But said flagshp does, we repeat, it does, have a platform. Still, since the Cadillac Sixteen concept is from a time when “Gaga” is what babies said, you should probably stick to the Mega Millions for now.
